Lahore School of Economics Marketing Society held a session on 22 February 2025 on Understanding Market Research as a Career. Some 80 undergraduates and MBAs attended the data-based session.
Muhammad Musab Naveed - the Industry Expert spoke primarily on concept testing and gave practical examples by showing a concept card and explaining technical terms such as Taglines, Insights, Benefits and RTBs, Size and Price indications, and other parts of a concept card. He emphasized the need to understand the right category. He then explained how market research is conducted and how questions are asked both from the larger group and from the target group. Some of these questions are quantifiable and others are qualitative in nature. The occasions where the product will be consumed are identified.
He also briefed the audience on how market research in conducted in general, from defining the problem, designing the research to reporting the findings. He then charted the journey of a market researcher and then discussed with the students what it takes to be a good market researcher.
The session was very insightful and introduced the audience to both what market research is and also what a career in market research will look like.
