Contextualizing Business Education for a Sustainable, Digital, and Inclusive Future
Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, Rector Lahore School of Economics, along with Dr. Azam Chaudhry, Pro-Rector Lahore School of Economics, Dr. Arshad Hasan, Chief Financial Officer Lahore School of Economics, Dr. Sophia Ali and Ms. Mehr-un-Nisa Khan Lodhi, attended the National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC), 12th Deans and Directors Conference, themed “Contextualizing Business Education for a Sustainable, Digital, and Inclusive Future.” This event was held on 17th and 18th of February 2025 at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore.
The Strategic Role of Leadership in Transforming Business Education
Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry participated in a key panel discussion at the conference, titled “The Strategic Role of Leadership in Transforming Business Education,” The session was moderated by Dr. Naukhez Sarwar, Chairman of NBEAC which included Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, former Chairman of NBEAC and Dr. Zahoor Hassan Syed, former Vice Chancellor of LUMS. This plenary session emphasized the critical role of academic leadership in reshaping business education. It highlighted the importance of fostering strategic partnerships between academia, industry, and communities to enhance the relevance and impact of business schools.

MOU between Lahore School of Economics and National Business Education Accreditation Council - HEC

The Lahore School of Economics and National Business Education Accreditation Council -HEC signed an MOU on 3rd August 2018 for future collaboration in building capacity of the business schools in Pakistan.
The objective of this MOU is for both institutions to engage in an effort to develop and promote “Developmental Programs” for business schools and faculty members. The goal of this co-operation is to foster collaboration, provide opportunity to different business schools/ institutes and faculty members for capacity building and to facilitate advancement of knowledge on the basis of reciprocity, best efforts, mutual benefit and frequent interaction and agree to explore the possibility of engaging in the modes of collaboration.

Best University Teacher Award 2016

Dr. Rehana Naz was awarded Best University Teacher Award 2016 by Higher Education Commission (HEC) in recognition of her outstanding performance in teaching, research and community services. The award was presented during a ceremony held at the HEC Secretariat on 21 February 2018.
Dr. Naz is a Professor of Mathematics at the Lahore School of Economics, Lahore, Pakistan. She is actively involved in research and teaching. Earlier, she was awarded the Research Productivity Award by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology in 2012. She is a member of the American Mathematical Society, London Mathematical Society, Association for Women in Mathematics and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World.

Lahore School participates in NBEAC Conference

A Lahore School of Economics delegation headed by Rector Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry and consisting of senior faculty attended the 4th Deans and Directors Conference hosted by National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC) of Higher Education Commission (HEC) on February 7-8, 2017 in Islamabad, Pakistan. A large number of Pakistani business schools, including those from distant areas, were present. The conference was addressed by Chairman HEC, as well as by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and former CEO Engro Fertilizer Asad Umer. Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, gave a keynote speech and expressed satisfaction at the economic growth of Pakistan.
Various speakers explained the importance of CPEC for Pakistan’s economy and stressed that it was a win-win situation for both countries. Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chairman Parliamentary Committee on CPEC, put CPEC in the context of global and regional politics while Dr. Nadeem Javaid, Chief Economist of Pakistan added facts and figures to the economic scenario. Discussions ranged from how to improve standards of business education, how to re-organize business schools syllabi, how to balance rigor in research with relevance to Pakistan to how to accredit Pakistani business schools to NBEAC.
The delegation from Lahore School included Dr. Inayat Ullah Mangla, Professor Fareed F. Fareedy, Dr. Aamir Khan, Dr. Kumail Abbas Rizvi, Dr. Zahid Riaz and Mr. Saad Shahid. Dr. Kumail in collaboration with Dr. Zaki Rashidi conducted a training session for various Pakistani business schools on how to apply and get accredited by NBEAC.
The participants agreed that the Conference provided a unique opportunity for strategic networking amongst business schools across Pakistan as well as a very useful platform to meet both challenges and opportunities in Pakistan because of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Pink Ribbon & HEC Youth Awareness Program

Since, October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness month all over the world, Pink Ribbon Pakistan celebrates the entire month as PINKtober followed by an extensive youth awareness program. Different activities like Seminars, walks, poster competitions, panel discussions material dissemination and other events were organized to highlight the issue. The focus of the Youth Program is to spread early detection that increases more than 90% chances of survival. So far, the program has reached out to more than 640,000 girls through hundreds of academic institutions in almost 5 years. These students are sensitized on global standards and techniques of early detection, enabling them to make better healthy choices in future.

Lahore School attends second NBEAC Deans and Directors Conference 2015

A five member delegation of Lahore School of Economics led by Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry attended the second NBEAC (HEC) Deans and Directors Conference 2015 in Karachi from 9-12 February. The Conference, held at three venues, and attended by some 100 plus Pakistani business schools, was convened by NBEAC-HEC.
The Conference, titled “Building Bridges and Fostering Collaborations in Business Education”, held multiple sessions, including “Academia and Corporate Linkages”, “Experience of International Linkages”, “Developing Entrepreneurship”, “Strategic Planning for Business Schools”, “Promoting Research Collaborations and Commercialization” and “Promoting CSR”. The format included speeches by keynote speakers and panelists, and questions and enthusiastic discussions by the participants.
The highlight of the Conference was the inaugural remarks by Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, who reiterated his commitment to the cause of business education in Pakistan. Keynote speakers included Director IBA Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Chairman NBEAC Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, Vice Chairman NBEAC Dr. Muhammad Nishat, and many other luminaries.
The Conference discussed at length some key issues regarding promoting collaboration between the various business schools of Pakistan, e.g. teaching at one another’s institution, helping one another with research programs and sharing best practices so that schools deficient in some areas could benefit from others. So that there is continuity, it was decided that the next conference would review progress on the points agreed this time.
Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, the Rector Lahore School of Economics was a keynote speaker at the Conference. In his address he congratulated HEC and NBEAC for organizing this conference. He elaborated on the achievements of the Lahore School which were in line with the agenda items of the Conference. He pointed out that the model of the Lahore School leveraged the School’s expertise in both economics and business. He listed some key research projects undertaken by the Lahore School, such as its work on Sialkot Soccer Ball industry, led by Dr. Azam Chaudhry and Shamyla Chaudry; Incentivization Attendance in Production Teams, led by Dr. Theresa Chaudhry; Incentivizing Development; and Understanding and Addressing Rural Povery in Pakistan. These projects, he noted, were good examples of industry linkages with business schools. Dr. Shahid emphasized that industry would only value business schools if the former saw value added by the later.
As further example of these linkages, Dr. Shahid Amjad informed the audience that the School invited around 50 industry and business experts to Lahore School in 2014 alone to address its MBA and undergraduate students so that industry knowledge was shared by the students as well. Last year, these speakers included CEO of Rozee.pk, Sales Head of Nestle, Director Operations of Metro, HR Heads of Hubpower, Metro and HBL, and Head Supply Chain of PepsiCo. Then, he gave examples of research projects by Lahore School students which included examination of problems faced by Nestle, Coca-Cola, Zong, Metro and many other companies in Pakistan. He informed the audience that the Lahore School had 20 Professors, 12 Associate Professors and 98 Assistant Professors/Lecturers as full time faculty and 58 part time faculty.
The delegation comprised Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, Professor F A Fareedy, Dr. Aamir Khan, Dr. Kumail Rizvi and Dr. Nawazish Mirza.

Congratulation Lahore School

Lahore School of Economics scored highest percentage (86%) in NBEAC-HEC accreditation process. National Business Education Accreditation Council accredited the Lahore School for four years at its twelfth meeting in Islamabad on June 26, 2014. Earlier, NBEAC team visited the Lahore School on May 19-21, May 2014.
Here, Dr Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, the Rector Lahore School of Economics is receiving the accreditation certificate from Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman HEC and Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Chairman NBEAC-HEC.

Professional Development of Teachers at Higher Education Level in Pakistan

APP: (January, 17, 2007) The three-day conference on `Professional Development of Teachers at Higher Education Level in Pakistan' has been organized by the National Academy of Higher Education, Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Dr Shahid Siddiqui, Professor at Lahore School of Economics read the paper - Teachers’ Development Through Self Understanding - in the Conference. He said, “Most of the teachers' education programmes in Pakistan focus only on pedagogical change without tapping the areas of conceptual and attitudinal changes thus underestimating the holistic view of change. A meaningful change can never take place until teachers reconceptualize some basic educational notions that inspire the new practices."

Blogs in Higher Ed: Personal Voice as Part of Learning

The use of Internet technology to facilitate interaction, communication, and collaboration is well documented but its use in establishing and developing "personal voice" as part of learning is also now being addressed through the use of blogs. Finding personal voice as a pedagogical method is important to establish learner identity and focus, and journaling has long been recognized as an effective way to provide space for this to occur. The blog, however, provides a context in which personal voice can be "published" by the student, which means that attention is given to content, relevancy, and connection with learning outcomes to a higher degree than a traditional journal submission. The idea that more than one person will view the work is quite powerful in promoting a sense of ownership from the student. Teachers can also benefit from "hearing" the personal voice of their students to begin to really understand the learning path of each student through a course. The above is the opening paragraph in an article, Blogs in Higher Ed: Personal Voice as Part of Learning, published by Ruth Reynard in eLearning Dialogue. Here is the summary and recommendations from the article:
- Blogging must be integrated early in the course design and must be clearly connected to the course outcomes before it can become anything more than just an extra task for the students.
- Grading does seem to motivate the students, but it seems to be more effective to grade according to effort in relevancy to course content and outcomes than simply on numbers of submissions.
- There is an issue with privacy, particularly with older students. This should be addressed by emphasizing how to secure and share entries.
- Instructors need time to evaluate the importance of self-reflection as a methodological approach in learning as well as the value of integrating personal voice in the learning context. Otherwise the exercise will be perceived as futile to the students.
