Lahore School of Economics Convocation 2005


Governor Punjab General (Retd) Khalid Maqbool conferred degrees to 459 successful students of the Bachelors, Masters and MPhil programs at the Fifth Convocation of the Lahore School of Economics here this evening.


Addressing the convocation, General Khalid Maqbool said, “The present government has placed the advancement of higher education amongst its highest priorities. This is resulting in doubling the enrollment and all universities are benefiting through improvement and expansion of facilities, introduction of better pay scales including through the Tenure Track System, Faculty PhD Programs both in Pakistan and abroad, Foreign Faculty Hiring Programs as well as substantial grants for Research and Conferences. The Government is also supporting an active collaboration between Industry, Business and the academic institutions.”

General Khalid Maqbool noted the developments that have taken place in the Lahore School and congratulated on holding the convocation at the Main Campus. Governor of the Punjab added, “The fact is that the School has achieved a very high and creditable position in the academic circles of Pakistan and its graduates have been well received in the market and this is a deservedly an achievement which the Board of Governors should be proud of.

Earlier, Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, the Rector Lahore School of Economics presented his report and highlighted the progress made by the School since the last convocation in 2003. Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry said, “The Lahore School’s full-time faculty of over 60 comprises of leading and experienced professors and hard-working junior faculty. The School focuses very strongly on curriculum development. Current student enrollment is over 1100 students in the Bachelors, Masters and MPhil and PhD Programmes. The Lahore School’s MBA/MSc Graduating class of 2004 was placed in three months after Graduation with salaries between Rs.25,000 to Rs.45,000 plus per month. The Lahore School has established its Centre for Research in 2004 and it is now staffed with high qualified researchers. A very successful international conference on “The Management of the Pakistan Economy” was held last month where more than 20 papers of very high quality were presented by policy markers and academicians. Last year, the Higher Education Commission designated the Lahore School of Economics as an ‘A’ Category University.

Earlier, the governor was welcomed by M. A. K. Chaudhry, the Chairman Board of Governors, Lahore School of Economics.

The convocation was held the Main Campus. Lahore School of Economics. Main Campus has been established in its 25 acre area on Burki Road. The function was attended by students their parents, faculty as well as academia.
