Lahore School of Economics and WTO Host Seminar on Trade Models and Economic Growth
December 04, 2024
In a recent seminar co-hosted (on 24 October 2024) by the Lahore School of Economics and the WTO under the WTO Chairs Program, Dr. Azam Chaudhry (WTO Chair for Pakistan) and Dr. Moazam Mahmood (Professor, Lahore School of Economics) presented the Lahore School Macro Model and its implications for growth in Pakistan and the EU.
Dr. Azam Chaudhry presented a Pakistan trade model showing that the country's GDP growth is highly sensitive to trade, particularly imports, with exports displaying more inelastic behavior. His analysis pointed to a strong impact of imports on the manufacturing sector, emphasizing the need for nuanced trade policies. Dr. Moazam Mahmood presented an EU model, which demonstrated a close link between GDP growth and employment, with implications for the European Central Bank’s monetary policies to support employment-driven economic stability.
