China-Pakistan Economic Corridor International Academic Symposium

On the invitation of the Center for Pakistan Studies of Peking University and the Centers for Pakistan Studies at Sichuan and at Fudan Universities, China, Dr. Aamir Khan of the Lahore School visited Beijing to speak to the International Academic Symposium on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) from 21-23 May 2015.
Some 40 Chinese and 15 Pakistani diplomats, scholars and journalists spoke at the CPEC Symposium. The Chinese speakers included Ambassador. Lu Shulin; Professor Tang Mengsheng of Peking University; Professor Du Youkang, Director Pakistan Study Centre; Fudan University; Mr. Ji Dong Chen, Executive Director Pakistan Study Center Sichuan University; Colonel Pan Zheng, National Defence University, China; Dr. An Hongqi of Jiangsu Normal University; and Mr. Xue Li of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The Pakistani speakers and guests included Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Ambassador of Pakistan Mr. Masood Khalid; Maj. Gen (R) Zahir Shah, CPEC coordinator; Ambassador Masood Khan, DG Institute of Strategic Studies; Dr. Rifaat Hussain, NUST; Professor Moonis Ahmar from University of Karachi; Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt, Chairperson, Department of Political Science, Government College University Lahore, Dr. Muhammad Khan, National Defence University Islamabad and Dr. Aamir Khan of the Lahore School.
The 55 speakers from both sides emphasized the importance of CPEC to both countries. The Chinese speakers pointed out that the Corridor will lead to peace and stability in the region, advancement of economic goals for both China and Pakistan, and social development. The Pakistani scholars, especially the Ambassador of Pakistan in China Mr. Masood Khalid, reiterated the resolve of the Pakistani Government and the Armed Forces of Pakistan to make the country a safe place for investment.

Dr. Aamir Khan of the Lahore School made a presentation on “Marketing CPEC” and pointed out that it was important to have a clear vision to and communicate the vision as marketing could prove to be a more important hurdle than even finance and operations.
