Dare to dream
June 29, 2015
Mr. Adeel Hashmi, CEO of Lightstorm communications came to Lahore School of Economics on June 23, 2015 to deliver a lecture to the students of the undergraduate programme on taking risks in life and plunging into whatever you are passionate about.
In his talk Hashmi emphasized how youth can be ones biggest asset.“Dare to dream”, he stressed should be your ally. He also talked about the Hollywood film, ‘The Firm’ and believed that is how one’s life is (if he/she does whatever the world expects of him/her). After a certain age you are stuck doing what you started and don’t like. Therefore, he concluded meaningfulness in career choices in life is very important.
He quoted an American writer, “the young attempt and achieve the impossible, generation after generation” and emphasized how Pakistan can change if the youth thinks differently. Entrepreneurial thinking leads people to achieve success. He talked about a case study from a book, ‘What I wish I knew when I was 20’ written by Tina Seelig, in which different groups of students were given $5 and were asked to generate revenue. There were different outcomes of revenue, but the students who raised the most money went to high-end restaurants and made reservations, later they sold their reservations to the couple who looked wealthy and would pay to get an earlier reservation.
He also talked about success being relatively unrelated with quality of work, talent and craft. Adeel Hashmi believed success is granted only by Allah and comes to those who work towards it.
