The Lahore School of Economics students took part in IBAC 5.0 and won the ‘Most Innovative Team’ Award in 3 days IBA Branding & Advertising Conference.

Lahore School wins IBA marketing competition

Lahore School of Economics participated in the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi Business and Advertising Conference and won a trophy.


Over 57 teams from all over the country participated in the competitions during three days Conference (10-12th February 2017). The Conference consisted of various competitions: Print Ad, TVC Making Competition, Repositioning and Marketing Strategy, Digital Ad Campaign Competition and a final presentation on different brands like McDonald's, Nestlé, PSO, TPL Holdings, Airblue, 14th Street Pizza and more.

Due to their exceptional performance at the event, a Dubai based Ad agency offered summer internships to Lahore School’s participating students (Henna Bhatti, Ale Mohammad, Talha Hyder, Nabia Saqib, Ali Sajawal Khan, Amna Arshad Kinza Babar, Adnan Saeed, Ali Tariq and Ramla Ahmed Cheema.

Seminar on Marketing Research

Lahore School organised a seminar on Marketing Research for students of MBA II (Marketing) at Mehmud Chaudhry Library on October 4, 2013. The guest speakers included Ms. Quratulain Ibrahim, CEO, TNS- Aftab Associates, Ms. Maira Hameed, Manager Marketing Research, Nestle and Mr. H. Aftab Ahmad, Chairman, TNS- Aftab Associates.
 
 
Ms. Quratulain Ibrahim started her talk with a brief introduction of TNS- Aftab Associates. She briefed the students on the company’s nature of business, different types of research, which included qualitative and quantitative research and various methods of conducting this research. The speaker highlighted some major research areas giving examples on how to design a sample for the client. She emphasized on the importance of ensuring that the data provided to the client was of high quality and hundred percent accurate. Pre-testing, field training and mock interviews were some of the techniques used. Post field data checks were conducted to guarantee data quality. “Dealing with people and getting information was the biggest challenge they had to face while doing business in Pakistan,” she said. Ms. Ibrahim also showed a video clip depicting Pakistani women in different areas of our country with reference to their culture, social and economic conditions and geographic terrains to the audience.

Marketing Strategy

Mr. Saad Munawer, Marketing Head Snacks, PepsiCo came to share his experiences with the students of MBA II Sections A and B on March 19, 2013.
 

The speaker started his talk by presenting food portfolio of PepsiCo. He said that the best marketing philosophy for any organization to follow was to believe that consumer was the boss. The speaker said that marketing alone could never create value for a customer unless the whole network in an organizations worked together to produce results.

Principles and Practices in Art Administration

Ambereen Karamat recently joined Lahore School of Economics as visiting faculty and is presently teaching a new course titled Principles and Practice in Art Administration for Marketing and Media Studies students.

Ambereen Karamat is an independent curator and an art critic. A recipient of Fulbright scholarship in 2009, she received her Masters in Art Criticism and Writing from School of Visual Arts, NY along with courses in Art Administration from Columbia University. Till August 2012 she was working putting together Rashid Rana’s mid-career retrospective at Mohatta Palace Karachi scheduled for later this year. With an interest in art market trends, she is setting up a platform that will represent Pakistani artists in the international art world, opening up with curating an exhibition in India running parallel to the South Asia’s biggest art event, India Art Fair in January 2013.

Managing Marketing Strategies in Economic Downturn

Seminar on "Managing Marketing Strategies in Economic Downturn" was held in Lahore School of Economics on March 25, 2010. The objective of the seminar was to give graduating MBA and MSc (Economics) students an understanding of the issues that the marketing heads of organizations faced while managing marketing strategies for their organizations in economic downturn. Four speakers representing two companies spoke on Marketing Strategies in Recession. 


Ahsan Afzaal, the Marketing Head Engro Foods gave a detailed presentation on managing marketing strategies in economic downturn. He was of the view that organization should focus on the changing needs of their customers and partners and should adapt their strategies to the new reality. He threw light on treating an economic downturn as an opportunity. Atif Shehzad Bhutto, Assistant Brand Manager Tarang was of the opinion that that proactive marketing was an example of being positive in tougher environments. 


Ali Rasid Khan expressed that an organization's brand equity needed to be continually invigorated during recession. Saad Munawar gave a presentation on snacks. He said that brands that increased advertising during recession when competitors were cutting back could improve market share and return on investment at lower cost than during better economic times. 


In his concluding remarks, Tariq Saeed Saigol complimented the Lahore School of Economics for choosing such a timely topic and arranging such an absorbing session for students. He talked about the macroeconomic position of Pakistan, inflation, currency and leadership. Tariq Saeed Saigol was of the view that businessmen should have a long term strategy to come out of recession. 


Highly interactive and informative seminar gave students an opportunity to ask questions to the experts.
