Lahore School Theater Night

Lahore School of Economics Dramatics Society is playing two dramas (Charley's Aunt and Heer Ranjha on 4th Annual Theater on night 11th-12th April 2016 (6-9 pm) in Shymyla's Garden.


Charley's Aunt is directed Ahsan Sohail, Heer Ranjha by Maham Tassadaq and Faheem Muzaffar is Executive Director.

Orientation’15 and Photo Booth


Lahore School of Economics Photography Society organized its orientation for the year 2014-15 on October 1, 2014. The session was attended by the students who wish to pursue photography as an extracurricular activity in the university. President and Vice President of the society briefed the students about the new council, past successes and the future plans. Orientation session was followed by a vintage themed photo booth which received a lot of attention and popularity from the students.

Lahore School Social Welfare Society

Lahore School Social Welfare Society arranged a workshop with Miss Tanzila Khan on the September 19, 2014 in Mehmood Chaudhry Library.


Miss Tanzila Khan talked about self motivation and how to think out of the box (she said there is no box). She asked students to tell their stories and then to sum it off on one word. The audience actively took part in the activity and some great moving stories were shared.

Lahore School Academic Club

The Lahore School Extra-Curricular Activities Department is introducing the Lahore School Academic Club (LSEAC).
 
The aim is to increase student involvement and provide a platform for them to explore their ideas and thoughts in the subject of their interest.

The objectives are as follows:
  • Fun for the students to explore more in the subject that they are best at
  • Increase their employability
  • An opportunity for the students to meet like-minded people and network with them
  • Develop teamwork and leadership skills
We are introducing five new societies which are as follows:
  1. Lahore School Marketing and Management Society (LSMMS)
  2. Lahore School Human Resource Society (LSHRS)
  3. Lahore School Entrepreneurship and Business Society (LSE-EBS)
  4. Lahore School Economics Society (LSE-ES)
  5. Lahore School Finance and Investment Society (LSFIS)

Sketching Workshop



Lahore School Society of Arts (LSSA) organized a sketching workshop on March 3, 2013 at Lahore School Liberty Campus. The students were provided with professional setup and all sketching materials to teach them the basic skills. Shahid Mirza from Arts and Media Studies at Lahore School of Economics Liberty Campus conducted the workshop; a lecture on how to sketch a portrait and practice to make a sketch with models sitting in front of them. In the second session different portraits from news paper were given to the students and were taught how to sketch.

Trip to Art Galleries



Lahore School Society of Arts (LSSA) arranged a trip to Art Galleries Feb 9, 2013. The purpose of this trip was to provide the young artists of Lahore School of Economics a source of inspiration, and to make them aware of the artwork of other artists of Pakistan. Students were first guided to "Rohtas Art Gallery" - a private gallery - where they got to see the beautiful artwork of "Sculptures". The next visit was made to Ejaz Art Gallery - a big and the only commercial art gallery located at M M Alam Road.

Fine Art of Sculpturing

 
The Lahore School Society of Arts’ (LSSA) "Sculpture Making Workshops" were held on September 28 and October 3, 2012 in Garden Cafe. The idea behind organizing the workshops was to give an opportunity to all those who want to learn art of Sculpturing using basic raw materials. Theme of the workshop s was "Things from the Sky" and students were asked to sculpt forms associated with the sky; mythical animals, birds, drones and planets.
 
 
Raw materials included news papers, reed, cotton strings, tape, and acrylic paints (basically all scrap). Some 50 students participated in the workshops and made an airplane, giant spider, planet, starts, and dragon, hut, alien and window decorations.

Preparing Yourself for the Real World

Lahore School Social Awareness Society arranged its second workshop on Preparing Yourself for The real World on January 20, 2012. Naveed Jamil, an Australian, Victoria University graduate, a certified public accountant, and a successful business executive who manages his own accounting firm was the guest speaker.


Naveed Jamil explained how everything around us is made of energy, and the two types of energy that exists within every human being: a kind of a raw emotional streak called ‘darkness’, and a state of relief and calm, known as ‘light” and how both can be channelized into productive outlets to attract positive things in life and to achieve "peace, contentment and enlightenment." Naveed Jamil also touched areas like Secrets to Success, How to Start Your Own Business From Scratch, Dealing with Conflict/ Crisis, Making the right choices, Realistic Expectations Setting and Building Healthy Relationships. The workshop was attended by a large number of students and followed by an interactive questions and answers session.

Anger Management Workshop

Lahore School Social Awareness Society (LS-SAS) arranged Anger Management Workshop on December 2, 2011 in Mahmood Chaudhry Library at the Main Campus. Omar Babar, an expert in personal development and character education was the guest speaker.


The Workshop highlighted different types of anger, such as “Positive Rage” or courage linking to one’s prestige, “Negative Rage” or the ego factor linking to external threats, along with causes and effective coping strategies for anger citing real life issues and examples from everyday life. Focus was on all aspects of anger management, with special emphasis on active, verbal and mental remedies. Omar Babar went on to discuss a mix of human nature and man-made social institutes and how our evolving lifestyles have contributed towards short temperament and violence over the past few years.
Most fruitful for the audience was Omer’s session where students gathered for one on one discussion of their ‘personal’ issues. Workshop imbued the audience with a sense of self-management and perseverance.


Earlier, Hiba Asad, the President and founder of LS-SAS introduced the Lahore School Social Awareness Society. "The Lahore School Social Awareness Society is a great opportunity for students to come together, share their visionary ideas, resolve major problems of our times to bring about progressive social change. LS-SAS has a strong base of members, who are well known for their depth and breadth of social work outside LSE. The Society is playing an important role in creating conducive environment by engaging the youth to resolve some of the most critical issues facing Pakistani society and the globalized world.


The Workshop that was attended by a large number of students and faculty concluded with interactive question and answer session, in which Omar Babar answered queries put forth by students.

Let us make a garden


The Lahore School Arts Society mural painting sessions are held in the Garden Café regularly on Wednesdays and Fridays. Based on the venue of the activity, the theme of these sessions this semester is ‘Let us make a garden.’ Students discuss their ideas with Shahid Mirza after which they start painting on canvases. The thematic murals will show case student artists’ expression of beauty, peace and tranquility.

Short Story Writing Competition 2011


The Lahore School Society of Literature organized its First Inter-Institution Short Story Writing Competition 2011 which was divided in two sessions: the first session, the competition itself, took place on Nov 16, 2011 at the SBS library. Twenty-one participants from eight different institutions from Lahore took part in the competition. The participants were shown a set of three issues (Labor, Patriotism, women) based photographs. Each student could choose any one of the photos to draw inspiration from and write a short story of 1000-1200 words. The entries have been sent to a panel of external judges for deliberation [Ali Rizvi (Pakistan Today), Bilal Tanveer (LUMS) and Miranda Hussain (Newsweek)].

Welcome Class of 2015

Lahore School of Economics welcomes Class of 2015.


Grand welcome party was held in lush green Shumaila Garden decorated with beautiful stalls by different societies in the Main Campus on November 24, 2011.


Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, the Rector Lahore School of Economics welcomed the fresh students and gave an overview of the achievements of the School. The Lahore School of Economics - a distinguished seat of learning known for high quality teaching and research. The Lahore School of Economics or “The Lahore School” was established in 1993 and chartered by the Government of Punjab in January 1997, through the Lahore School of Economics Act 1997 (Provincial Assembly of the Punjab- Act II of 1997).



Most of the extra circular and co-academic activities in the School are conducted by the students themselves through different societies – Arts Society, Debating Society, Film and Media Club, Literature Society, Photography Society, Social Awareness Society, Sports Society and Welfare Society. All these societies were introduced to incoming class of 2015 who were dressed in black (boys) and red (girls) attires. Creative and very amusing announcements by Chishti and Aleeshay Khar and various performances by students of Lahore School also amused the audience that also included a large number of Alumni.

 

For new students, joining the Lahore School of Economics signals the moment of their initiation as students in an awesome environment. The Lahore School is a university that is proud of its students, faculty, green walkways, courtyards (and peacocks), libraries and computer laboratories. Creative and academic milieu in the Lahore School guarantees success - though certainly in part attributable to their hard work and intelligence. In fact, the Lahore School brings together inspired people who, together and individually, do remarkable things. The School knows that students will embrace the good of this place. Lahore School Annual Sports Day - 2011


Lahore School of Economics Sports Society held their annual sports day on Mar 11, 2011 at new stadium. at Burki Campus The event saw several competitions of athletics including 100 meters sprints, sack race, relay race, and 300 meters run and cross country race in addition to sportsman's spirit and joy of standing at the victory stand. The participating students as well as the supports enjoyed the  Lahore School sports fiesta The highlight of the day was 100 meters faculty brisk walk where students cheered their teachers, as they competed.

The South Asian Economics Students Meet Dhaka, Bangladesh


The South Asian Economics Students Meet (SAESM) is a discussion forum for South Asian undergraduate students to interact and introduce fresh international perspectives on economic development, motivating contemporaries to think beyond textbooks. In particular, this conference is an attempt to discuss the impact of economic development on different aspects of South Asian economy-agriculture, industry, trade, infrastructure, poverty and entrepreneurship from the perspective of a learning economics student.

The meet attempts to bring together the students pursuing the undergraduate program in economics in South Asian countries and provide them a platform to learn about the development of this region. This year SAESM returned to Dhaka with much bigger anticipation as the reputation of the conference has grown over time. It was held on Dec 9th and 10th 2009 by the Economics Department of the Dhaka University. SAESM primarily comprised three categories: Theme paper submission and presentation, the Budding Economist competition, and the Quiz competition.


At SAESM 2009 five countries namely Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka participated with each country having a delegation of ten participants. Team Pakistan consisted of two students from the Lahore School of Economics and eight students from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Tawha Ahmed (BSC IV sec A) participated in the theme paper submission category and presented a paper on the topic of SME Development while Asha Gul (BSC IV sec A) contested the Budding Economist category.

Lahore School Sports Feista, 2010


The Sports Society held their 1st field sports event “the Lahore School Sports Fiesta” on 2nd Feb,2010 at the football field . The event witnessed field sports for both males and females like 50m, 100m, 200m races, sack race, Tug of War, football free style and High Hell race for girls. Tug of War was the main attraction for the audiences and participants. Ayehs Akram won the high heel race, 50 meters race was only for girls in which Batool, Ayesha Nkram and Natalia Naveed were top three participants, 1st position 100 meters (males) top three contestants were Hussain Ali, Raza Sheikh and Mohid Sharif.

Her Imperfect Prayer Cycle

The Lahore School of Economics Dramatic and Entertainment Society is performing a mime “Her Imperfect Prayer Cycle” – previously performed at Rafi Peer Youth Performance Art in the Main Café on Jan 21-22, 2009.

Directed by Sheryar Latif (BBA), this mime is a symbolic narration of a three dimensional classic story of a prostitute - faith, love and death. The mime uncovers the price a body pays for a material yet incomplete soul.

The play is written by Sidra Zia Butt, performance is by Mishelle Syed and narration by Amal Khurram.
