Lahore School of Economics and Bahcesehir University Students Exchange Program

Five undergraduate students from the Lahore School of Economics were sent to Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, Turkey under the Students Exchange Program between both the Universities. Rameesha Javaid, Fahad Buksh, Mehvish Faran, Fatima Nadeem and Saadia Afzal from the Lahore School attended the Winter Term 2009 at Bahcesehir University on Bahcesehir University Scholarship.

Head of Retail and Consumer Banking HBL Visited the Lahore School

Abid Sattar, the SEVP and Head of Retail and Consumer Banking HBL visited the Lahore School of Economics on Thursday January 21, 2010 and gave a talk to MBA / MSc (Economics) students.


Abid Sattar threw light on various areas of banking including strengths of HBL, stability factor in the banking sector, market Information, balance sheet figures and career options. In addition to students, this interactive session was attended by faculty members as well.

Understanding Pupil’s Achievements in Pakistan

Lahore School of Economics {along with South Asia Forum for Education and Development and Idare-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi is organizing a seminar on “Understanding Pupil’s Achievements in Pakistan” by Dr. Monazza Aslam, Research Officer Center for the Study of African Economies, University of Oxford on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in the City Campus.

Dr. Aslam’s research focuses on the Economics of Education, applied micro-econometrics and gender issues in education in developing countries.

Lahore School Wins Top Honors at the NLS Model UN Conference in Bangalore, India

The Lahore School of Economics Association of Debaters represented the Lahore School at the National Law School of India Model United Nations in Bangalore, India. The conference saw the top Model UN teams from across India to compete for the coveted prizes of the best Delegate (outstanding diplomacy award) and the Best Chair Award. The team comprised of the President of the Lahore School Association of Debaters Shahram Niazi (BSC 4), Hassan Ghani (BSC 2), Owaise Rana (BBA 3) and Abu Bakr Hayyat (BBA 3). The Model United Nations conference was held from December 3rd to 5th at the NLS Campus in Bangalore. Shahram Niazi chaired the Joint Crisis Committee, the Iranian National Cabinet, while Hassan Ghani, Owaise Rana and Abu Bakr Hayyat spoke in the U.S crisis cabinet and the General Assembly as delegates. 


Shahram Niazi was awarded the best chair award for the conference and Hassan Ghani won the Best Delegate Award for his outstanding performance in the United States Crisis Cabinet. Owaise Rana and Abu Bakr hayyat were awarded honorable mentions for their performances in the General Assembly.

LUMS Model United Nations (LUMUN) 2009

The members of the Lahore School of Economics Association of Debaters spent the overlapping week of 2009 and 2010 at the sixth annual Lahore University of Management Sciences Model United Nations, held at the LUMS campus from the 30th of December 2009 to the 3rd of January 2010. The Lahore School of Economics was participated in the simulation conference as members of two teams, and the student delegates represented Burkina Faso, France, Iran, Sri Lanka and the World Bank in ten committees of the United Nations, its subsidiary bodies, and other global organizations.


The student delegates deliberated enthusiastically in the ten committee sessions, and spent their evenings, with their regional and International ‘blocs’, drafting extensive resolutions on the topics being debated upon in their respective committees. Despite immense competition at the conference, owing to LUMUN being the largest simulation of the United Nations in the country, the Lahore School of Economics performed exceptionally well and bagged eight Outstanding Diplomacy Awards at the conference.

From the Lahore School of Economics delegations, Abubakr Omar Hayat, Affaan Khan Sherwani, Aitzaz Rehman Sheikh, Anum Mehak Malik, Anum Zahoor, Muhammad Owais Rana, Umair Mahmood and Umar Akram were bestowed the Outstanding Diplomacy Awards at LUMUN ’09.
