The Third Annual Business Conference on Managing Business in Pakistan was held at the Lahore School of Economics, Main Campus, Burki Road, Lahore. The Conference was opened by Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, Rector, Lahore School of Economics.

There were three sessions on the first day. The first session was chaired by Mr. Nadeem Naqvi, Managing Director, Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE). It presented some valuable insights about Global Finance, Capital Markets, Investment Opportunities and Valuation Practices in Pakistan. The key note speakers included Mr. Akif Saeed, Commissioner SECP, Dr. Nawazish Mirza from the Lahore School, Mr. Muhammad Sajid from JS Private Equity, and Dr. Imtiaz Ul Haq from LUMS.

The second session was on the topic of Corporate Financing, Financial Institutions, Instruments and Relevance of Credit Ratings of a Vibrant Financial System. The session was chaired by Mr. Akif Saeed, Commissioner, SECP. Other esteemed speakers included Dr. Inayat Ullah Mangla from Western Michigan University, Mr. Shahzad Saleem, Chief Operating Officer PACRA, Dr. Ayesha Afzal from the Lahore School, and Mr. Waqas Munir, Senior Manager Micro Finance and Corporate, JCR-VIS Credit Ratinng Company Pakistan.

The last session of the day, chaired by Mr. Mohammad Maqbool, Vice President, ICAP focused on the Regulatory Environment , Financial Reporting and Taxation Practices. Other esteemed speakers included Mr. Mobeen Ajmal from University of Management and Technology, Mr. Muhammad Ali Qamar, Partner Advisory Services, Ernst & Young, Ms, Ramsha Rashid from the Lahore School, Mr. Iftikhar Taj, and Mr. Jalal Ahson.

The conference was attended by renowned faculty from country wide institutes like LUMS, IBA Karachi, UMT, and the Lahore School as well as Amsterdam Business School. Also, management of reputable financial organizations SECP, JS Private Equity, PACRA, JCR-VIS, ICAP, and Ernst & Young was also there.

On the second day, the first session was chaired by Dr. Muahmmad Shahid Qureshi , Director and Assistant Professor at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development, IBA Karachi. He shared his valuable thoughts on ‘Impact of Incubation Support Systems in Promoting Entrepreneurship’. Mr. Shahzad Saleem, COO PACRA spoke on ‘Sponsors: How raters look at them – Evolution of Entrepreneurs.’ Prof. Iqbal M Khan, Senior Fellow Entrepreneurship at the Lahore School Economics presented his valuable insights about indigenous ‘KALASHA and Vocational Entrepreneurship’. Mr. Irfan Siddique talked about ‘What makes the SMEs to grow! A study of Entrepreneur’s Behavioral, Cognitive, and Expertise Impact.’

The second session was chaired by Dr. Wendelien Vam Erde, the Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam Business School. The first speaker for this session was Dr. Farrah Arif who shared some fruitful ideas on ‘Mobile Financial Services: Understanding Consumer Engagement with Technology – based Service Encounters.’ Dr. Aamir Khan, Associate Professor of Marketing and Organizational Behavior at the Lahore School of Economics shared his thoughts on ‘Marketing Orientation as a Driver of Customer Selectivity, leading to firm performance.’ Ms. Amina Talat, Assistant Professor at Lahore School of Economics spoke on ‘Conjoint Analysis to find out consumer perception about premium plastic emulsion paint’. Ms. Mehrukh Salman, Senior Teaching Fellow at the Lahore School and a PhD candidate talked about ‘Contributions of Brand Equity Creation: Case of Pakistan.’

Dr. Sohail Zafar, the Dean faculty of Business of Lahore School of Economics chaired the last session. Dr. wendelien Vam Erde was the presented paper on ‘Meaning of lateness to meetings: South African, Dutch, and Pakistani Compared.’ Prof Fareed A. Fareedy, Professor of Economics and Business at the Lahore School shared some insightful thoughts on ‘Role of Mega Chain Stores in Development of Local Supply Chains/Vendors.’ Mr. Saad Shahid. PhD scholar and a Teaching Fellow at Lahore School of Economics discussed ‘Turnover Intention Predictors amongst the employees of Public Sector Organizations’. Ms. Samra Chaudary, PhD scholar and Teaching Fellow at the Lahore Schools poke on ‘Customer perception of CSR initiative: Its antecedents and consequences.’
